Biography
.Name Ashley Cooper
.Nickname Coop, Coop-dog, Coops, Moaty
.Position Back Row
.Previous Clubs Swinton Lions – for a term…
.Earliest Rugby Memory The first season I played rugby was 2004. I had no idea of the rules at all and I hated it when my team had the ball, I just wasn’t interested in attack. All I wanted to do was defend and tackle people as hard as I could. I earned most improved player that season.
.Best ground you’ve played at Leigh Sports Village, capacity of 11,000 – although not that many showed up when I played.
.Rugby Idol Brian Lima and Sam Burgess
.Best dressed team mate Benno Stubbs
.Worst dressed team mate Louis Critchlow
.Worst training drill? The famous ‘mid January Gary Hodge commando roll in the mud.’ I must have spent hours doing this with a handful of people at training in horrendous conditions and can honestly say that I have never felt the need to do a commando roll in a game and if an opposition player ran up to me in a game and did a commando roll, I’d put them so far through the turf mid-roll, that they would never do it again.
.If you didn’t play rugby, what sport would you play professional Chase The Ace Player
.Favourite rugby moment RWC 2003, South Africa v Samoa. On 61 minutes, Brian Lima introduced 19 year old Derick Hougaard to his right shoulder. I would imagine poor Derick is still winded now. This is why I started playing rugby.
.Celebrity lookalike Raul Moat
.Which 3 famous people would you have over for dinner Tommy Cooper, Adam Ashley-Cooper & Henry Cooper – a real family get together.
.Last try you scored Tries are for wingers... You should be asking about the last big hit I made! Tony Mac trundled the ball in towards me, having been out injured for 6 months and assuming he'd take things easy. I wasn't thinking the same thing and smashed him. He hit the deck making a noise that can only be described as the mating call of a Yukon Bull Elk. However I did also score against Widnes at home, to secure the bonus point. Wasn’t enough to keep us up though!
