On a rain soaked Avenue Street, Bolton U16s started their season with a Lancs cup game against Old Bedians/Broughton Park. This was a feisty affair between two evenly matched teams with some brilliant rugby played by both teams.
Bolton’s pre-season work clicked into gear and took an early lead with an impressive try from Dhilan Jacobs. Bolton had the impetus in the first half and scored again with a powerhouse try from Player of the match Harry Taylor, Finlay Rowbotham slotted the conversion making it 12-0.
The second half was even tighter in this thriller of a game. Old Bedians pushed hard and despite some heroic defending for long periods Old Bedians crossed the whitewash, 12-5.
The two sides never gave up and in the last minute of the game Old Bedians were awarded a penalty try making the score 12-12. Bolton didn’t want to settle for the draw and quickly took the restart, and won a penalty on the 22.
Knowing this would be the last kick of the game, captain Finlay Rowbotham opted to go for the posts. A sharp intake of breath from the assembled spectators and the kick went over. Absolute scenes. A well deserved victory and every single player gave it their all.
