A confident win for Bolton

The Bolton boys were feeling confident going into this tricky away fixture at noisy neighbours Oldham after two good wins against Thornton Cleveleys & Liverpool Collegiate in the two weekends prior.

Conditions were looking perilous as the lads trudged out onto the cabbage patch (allocated training pitch). After a focussed & precision orientated warm up for the boys in red & white, they were ready to rumble.

A lovely received kick off and clean exit from Bolton to start set the tone from the outset (the training must have paid off… so far). A tight affair in the first quarter saw some big (illegal) collisions from the big Oldham backline - Josh Holmes’ face & subsequent ruined modelling career will tell you all you need to know. Despite the aggro, Bolton rose above it & started to pile on the phases and Oldham didn’t want to know when skipper Dan Aspinall bundled over from a strong maul for the opening try of the game.

After some more powerful scrummaging from the forwards and a Superman style clear out from Landi for a convincing first 40 from the lads. Good half.

Echoes of Thornton Cleavleys were around the halftime huddle to keep focussed and finish the job. The lads came out from half time and did just that. 10 phases from inside their own half from the kick off, beautifully worked from one side to another and eventually a pick and go finished by Lou Critchlow. 20-0 to BRUFC.

After a disappointing fumble by recently crowned Player of the Month Ross Hayden, Henry Davies picked a short line off another strong carry from Paul Leigh and salmoned under the sticks for five more. (Bruised ribs but so worth it). Ross adds the extras for 27-5.

Bolton began to sit back and play the game out, helped by good contributions off the bench from Dan Southworth & Tom Crook. Eventually the full 80 was up and its another storming win for an in-form team. Can they make it four on the bounce Vs rivals Leigh next week at Avenue Street? Stay tuned.

Final score: 5-27
