Amazons visit Winnington Park

Bolton U14's Amazons travelled to Winnington Park on Sunday for a round of the Lancs Challenge versus the host club and Chester. With only 12 players available Winnington Park lent Bolton a player to make it 13 a side.

The first match was against Winnington Park. Winnington took the lead early on from the kick off when one of their pacy players caught the ball and ran the whole length of the field touching down under the posts.
The Amazons were under the cosh and struggled to retain possession and the hosts were again on the score sheet, again scoring under the posts making it a simple task for the kicker. 0-14. Bolton replied a little later with a well worked line out move on the 5 metre line, when Holly drove over the line. Iona was unable to convert the try from such a long distance. 5-14.
Winnington Park were soon on the score sheet from a penalty 10 metres out after a drive and simple offload saw one of the players 2 meters out, but the ball was ripped from their grasp only to fall into the hands of another player, allowing them to fall over the line and score, again directly under the posts. 5-21.
Bolton replied when Betty scored, after good work by the Bolton forwards to retain the ball. The conversion of the game came from Iona who managed to convert the try from a long distance and angle, both home and away supporters cheered the kick. A very rare sight at u14's girls rugby.
Winnington Park came out on top winning 28-12 as their name suggests.

The next game was v Chester.
A much better performance by Bolton. Their rucking and support play improved. Isabel and Felicity worked hard at the breakdown and Eilidh, Iona, Holly and Aisha combined well in the backs.
Betty scored two tries making it a hat trick for the day for her. Iona scored and converted a try.
Chester battled hard and replied with two unconverted tries by their pacy winger. Final score 17-10 to Bolton.

The Coach's award went to Betty for her tackling, support play and of course her well deserved hat trick. Player's player and vice captain's player went to Aisha who was unlucky not to score and had some amazing runs. Captain's award went to Felicity who has grown in confidence around the rucks and showed great strength in the forwards.
